“To know even one life breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” – Ralph Emerson Waldo
Professor Gracielle Fong suffered from asthma since she was a young and was therefore exposed to Respiratory Therapists at an early age. “I want to be a Respiratory Therapist and help others” was always her motto.
She enrolled in Bergen Community College right after high school and was accepted into the program. During her schooling her mother became very ill, and she worked tediously to finish the program with her cohort. Unfortunately, she passed away when Professor Fong graduated in 2003, her mother has been her motivation to do well and treat her patients well. “Seeing your patient be able to breathe on their own is so rewarding,” she shares.
Professor Fong joined County College of Morris in January 2017 after 14 years of working as a full-time Registered Respiratory Therapist and as a part-time clinical instructor for Bergen Community College for 11 years. Her mentor encouraged her to teach, and she has been passionate about teaching ever since. Professor Fong summarizes her love for teaching as “Making an impact on students’ lives and careers, it makes teaching worthwhile.”
