Nursing Department Chair Expands Her Leadership Role at the College – Posted 7/21/15

The Board of Trustees at County College of Morris (CCM) has appointed Monica Maraska, of Randolph, as dean of the Division of Health and Natural Sciences effective this month.

Most recently chair of the Nursing program at CCM, Maraska replaces Joan Cunningham, who retired in April after serving 39 years at the college. Maraska, a nurse and certified nurse educator, had been serving as interim dean.

“We’re delighted that Monica applied for and has been appointed to this important position at the college,” said Dr. Edward J. Yaw, president of CCM. “She is a well-respected leader in her field and has contributed greatly to the college during her many years of service here. We look forward to the growth she is sure to bring to the Division of Health and Natural Sciences.”

The division is comprised of the Departments of Allied Health, which consists of Radiography and Respiratory Therapy; Biology and Chemistry; Health and Exercise Science; Landscape and Horticultural Technology; and Nursing.

“I’m thrilled to be able to continue to serve the college in this expanded capacity,” said Maraska. “I’m looking forward to working with the department chairs and faculty to support and grow our already successful programs, while continuing my involvement in the world of nursing.”

Maraska joined CCM in 1996 as an adjunct instructor and was appointed instructor of nursing the following year. She was appointed assistant professor in 2002 and named chair of the Nursing program in 2011. She was awarded full professorship in 2013.

Prior to joining CCM, she worked as a nurse at Morristown Medical Center. In addition, she has worked as vice president for professional services at Home Health Corporation, as a geriatric clinical nurse specialist and community health nurse, all in Pennsylvania.

She currently is working on her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at Rutgers and expects to complete that degree in May 2016. She holds her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Thomas Jefferson University and Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.
