Pieces Will be Shown at State Museum of Pennsylvania – Posted 6/2/16
Dr. James Gwynne, professor of Visual Arts at County College of Morris (CCM), will have his artwork displayed at the State Museum of Pennsylvania.
The 49th Annual “Art of the State: Pennsylvania 2016” exhibit utilized a very selective process when choosing art pieces for the show. Of the 1,800 statewide submissions, only 124, about 7 percent of the submissions, were chosen, including two by Gwynne titled “Kiss” and “Telephone Pole with Fog.” The exhibit includes artwork highlighting Pennsylvanian artists in five categories: craft, painting, photography, sculpture and work on paper.
The exhibition opens with a reception on June 26 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and runs through September 11. The reception is open to the public and general admission that day is waived for museum visitors. The State Museum of Pennsylvania is located at 300 North St, Harrisburg, PA, across from the Pennsylvania State Capital building.
Gwynne, of East Stroudsburg, has participated in more than 300 exhibitions and is known for his large-scale paintings. Many of his pieces are bold and colorful renditions of the sky, landscapes and the human body. Included among his many honors and recognitions are both the Best in Show and Painting Award from the Westmoreland Arts National Juried Exhibition. His work is represented in several private, corporate and public collections, including the New Jersey State Museum.
Gwynne joined the CCM faculty in 1972. He also has taught at The College of Wooster and Centenary College. He earned his B.A. from The College of Wooster, his M.A. from Michigan State University and his Ph.D. from New York University.
