County College of Morris (CCM) is excited and proud to announce that Morristown resident Jonathan Granda Acaro, an Engineering Science major, has been chosen as a 
semifinalist for the highly competitive Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation awards these scholarships that supports exceptionally talented community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees. The finalists will be chosen in April 2021.
“Being named a semifinalist is a huge accomplishment in that Jonathan is among the 406 students who have been selected from the 1,500 students nationwide for this status,” said Bette Simmons, vice president of Student Development and Enrollment Management. We will learn in April if he is selected as a finalist. Nonetheless, this is an amazing recognition that we should celebrate.”
Acaro serves as vice president of CCM’s Student Government Association and has assisted the college on several student volunteer functions, most recently as part of the strategic planning process.
“After my time at CCM, I am applying for transfer at Columbia University, Cornell University, Stanford University and Rutgers University,” said Acaro. “In completing my Engineering Science associate degree at CCM, I plan to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and then attend graduate school. Career-wise, I intend to work in the defense and aerospace industries.”
