Not only did Visual Arts students at County College of Morris (CCM) have the opportunity to display their work at the Art Upstairs Gallery at the Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in Morristown this spring, several also were presented with awards.
Julia Esposito, of Chester, was presented with Best in Show and a $100 prize for her mixed media piece “Forgetting.” Presented with an Award of Merit were Veronica Kania, of Denville, for her digital piece “Dripping” and Fitnat Kucuk, of Lincoln Park, for her acrylic painting “Young Bach.” Presented with Honorable Mentions were Kaylee Gernant, of Newton, for her colored pencil piece “Squid Games;” Mary Ann Kohaut, of Rockaway, for her acrylic painting “Judy;” and Gavin Ludwig, of Wharton, for his colored pencil piece “Gollum.”
Serving as judges were Mike Dziomba, president of the New Jersey Art Association, who donated the $100 prize for Best in Show; Dan Fenelon, artist and partner at Core Creative Placemaking; and Charles Miller, MPAC program consultant and coordinator of the Art Upstairs Gallery, who donated two tickets to a MPAC show of choice to each of the student participants.
The Visual Arts Program at CCM also presented gift certificates from Blick Art Supplies to the winners, $75 for Best in Show, $50 for Award of Merit, and $25 for Honorable Mention.
The exhibition, featuring approximately 35 pieces, was curated by artist and CCM Professor Todd Doney. The 2022 show marked CCM’s return to MPAC following a two-year long hiatus due to the pandemic. This is the eighth year MPAC hosted the CCM Art Students exhibition.
