Employees Benefit from Results-Oriented Classes – Posted 1/28/15
Named the 2014 statewide leader for providing no-cost business skills training for employees, the Center for Business and Technology (CBT) at County College of Morris (CCM) continues to remain the leading provider in the state.
Since the start of the fiscal year in July 2014, the CBT at CCM has provided and scheduled more than $359,000 worth of free training for Morris County employers through a partnership developed by the New Jersey Department of Labor with the New Jersey Business and Industry Association and the New Jersey Community College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development.
Among New Jersey’s 19 community colleges, the CBT at CCM also made the greatest use of a grant from the New Jersey Technology Council to provide employees in the region with computer skills training. CBT was able to tap into $60,000 of that grant for Morris County employees.
As a result of both efforts, Morris County employers to date have received more training opportunities for their employees than any other section of the state.
Area employers are encouraged to join the more than 200 companies that have experienced the value of free business skills training for their employees and its positive impact on their businesses by taking advantage of CBT’s offerings.
Results-oriented computer, management and communications skills classes are available now through June 30 at CCM’s Randolph campus, 214 Center Grove Road. On-site classes also are available.
New classes this year include Business Professionalism, Innovative Thinking, Transition to Supervisor, Intro to Lean Principles, Strategies to Reduce Conflict, Essential Tools for Management Success, Techniques to Reduce Stress to Achieve Work-Life Balance, How to Prioritize When Everything Is Important, Intro to Logistics, English as a Second Language and Spanish for the Workplace.
Additional communications and management skills training covers such topics as Critical Thinking Skills, Problem Solving Made Easy, Strategic Planning, Communicating for Business Success, Dynamic Presentations, Demystifying Social Media, Emotional Intelligence: Boost Your Power of Persuasion, Project Management Fundamentals, and Business and Email Writing.
Computer classes include basic to advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Most classes are eight-hours long, running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are scheduled on weekdays.
Employers can register employees for as many classes as they deem necessary. The only requirements are that employees must be employed at least 20 hours a week and paid their usual hourly rate while in training. For the computer training, employees also should have a basic knowledge of Windows and how to use a keyboard and mouse.
Classes fill up fast so employers are encouraged to act quickly to take advantage of these opportunities.
