Karl Latham Conceptualized “Constellations,” a Reimagining to 2007’s “Volta” – Posted 11/6/14
Karl Latham, adjunct professor of music at County College of Morris (CCM), has released a brand new album that fuses the worlds of jazz music and the works of Icelandic singer Björk.
Latham conceptualized, co-produced and played drums on “Constellations,” a reimagining of Björk’s 2007 album “Volta.” The music on “Constellations” is performed by a musical group of the same name, consisting of Latham, jazz bass legend Mark Egan and German trumpeter Ryan Carniaux. The three previously performed together in The Wolfgang Lackerschmid Connection, led by German vibraphonist and composer Wolfgang Lackerschmid.
“I’ve been a Björk fan for years,” explains Latham. “I covered a version of her song Pagan Poetry on my first CD release. For this album, I wanted to realize my interpretation of Björk’s creative music flow in my own recording environment.”
The album, which is already available in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, will be available worldwide in stores and in downloadable form in January.
Latham, a percussion specialist who resides in Warwick, NY, has appeared on hundreds of album releases, recordings and television shows in Europe and has toured the U.S. and Europe for the past 20 years. He spent six months per year in Europe touring from 1993-2000, creating a large following in Germany, a country he calls his main market.
Latham is listed on the independent website www.drummerworld.com in its Top 500 Drummers list. He plays every style of music ranging from R&B to jazz, to funk, to Broadway musicals. He has played with many well-known artists, including Johnny and Edgar Winter, and appeared on Andy Snitzer’s album “Traveler,” which was in the top 10 of smooth jazz radio airplay for nearly an entire year.
