Opportunity to Watch Award-Winning Music Professors
Join the Department of Music, Performing Arts & Music Technologies at County College of Morris (CCM) as it presents a faculty recitation, featuring outstanding and award-winning professors performing musical works of art.
The Spotlight on Music: Faculty Recitation takes place Tuesday, December 7, at 12:30 p.m. in the Music Technology Center Performance Lab on the CCM campus, 214 Center Grove Road, Randolph. The recitation is free and open to the public. There will be performances by Dr. José Beviá, Professors Todd Collins and Yuka Yanagi, and Dr. Oliver Santana-Rivera.
Beviá, an award-winning musician and composer, has earned numerous top prizes and honors during the course of his career. He is the winner of the 2014 Robert Avalon International Competition for Composers, the 2011 Lee Ettelson Composer Award, the 2010 International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition from the National Academy of Music and the Municipal Conservatories of Neapolis and Sykies in Greece, the 2007 BMI Foundation Charlie Parker Composer Prize in New York, and the 2006 University of West Florida Phillips Jazz Piano Competition.
Collins is the author of five books on mandolin, privately teaches mandolin, guitar and clawhammer banjo and has performed across the country and abroad. His recording credits include film, television and CD session work. He was the mandolinist for the Disney film soundtrack “Tom and Huck,” and has produced several commercially released recordings as well as his own “Blue Soul” and “Barbella Mandolin Duets” CDs.
Yanagi has performed frequently throughout the tristate area, including Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, the Steinway Piano Gallery, Paul Hall and Morse Hall at the Juilliard School, and in Japan and Taiwan. Her students have participated in and won numerous major New York and New Jersey area piano competitions.
Santana-Rivera is a Grammy Award winner saxophonist for his participation on the album Covered: Alive In Asia. His talents as a gifted saxophonist, woodwind doubler, arranger and educator have made him an in-demand musician who has performed in various venues around the world.
