Graduates Will Be Eligible to Gain Certification and National License
To meet a growing demand for paramedics to respond to healthcare emergencies on the scene, County College of Morris (CCM) will be offering a Paramedic Science Program to prepare individuals for state certification and national licensing.
The Paramedic Science Program will begin with the 2021 Spring Semester. The program aligns with the National EMS Education Standards and Scope of Practice to provide students with a curriculum relevant to current day needs and situations. To provide students with realistic, hands-on learning in a safe environment, they will work with high-fidelity simulators prior to entering clinical and field rotations.
Students who complete the program, earning an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, will be eligible to obtain a National Registry paramedic license and New Jersey paramedic certification.
Paramedics respond to emergency calls, perform certain medical services and transport patients to medical facilities. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the demand for paramedics will grow faster than average.
There are two phases to the Paramedic Science Program at CCM: pre-professional and professional. The program is a competitive based admissions program. A separate application is required for acceptance into the professional phase, where students take part in clinical and field rotations. Acceptance is based on grades achieved in the pre-professional phase. An advanced placement sequence is available for currently certified New Jersey paramedics who would like to complete an AAS degree.
The CCM Paramedic Science Program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions. This letter is not a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs accreditation status. It is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report and other documentation. The Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT’s paramedic credentialing examinations. However, it is not a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
