Recognized by the New Jersey Council of County Colleges for Their Academic Success
CCM students Alejandra Linares Martinez and Joaquin Mould Parga, holding their New Jersey All-State Academic Team awards, with CCM President Anthony J. Iacono and Dr. Bette Simmons, vice present of Student Development and Enrollment Management and interim vice president of Academic Affairs.
Alejandra Linares Martinez, of Livingston, and Joaquin Mould Parga, of Randolph, recently were selected as 2019 New Jersey All-State Academic Team members for their success in the classroom and contributions to the community.
They, along with 36 other students from across the state, were honored by the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC) at its 25th annual New Jersey Community College Scholars Celebration on Wednesday, May 8, at the New Jersey State Museum.
“Our 19 community colleges provide life changing opportunities to over 325,000 students each year, and these 38 students are accomplished academic scholars and community leaders on our campuses,” said NJCCC President Aaron Fichtner, Ph.D.
“Each year, we invite New Jersey’s top community college students and their families to celebrate their outstanding academic achievements and exceptional service to their communities as members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at their local community colleges,” said NJCCC Chair Phil Linfante, Ph.D.
A design major at CCM, Martinez has served as vice president of fellowship for the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter at the college, as a member of the Design Club and was a semifinalist for the prestigious nationally awarded Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship.
A business administration major at CCM, Parga has served as president of the college’s PTK chapter, as a member of the Men’s Soccer team and member of the Alpha Beta Gamma honor society. He also is the recipient of the college’s Douglas A. Patton Campus Life Award in recognition of his contributions to the college.
“We are so proud of Alejandra and Joaquin and their academic success and contributions to the college and the larger community,” said Dr. Anthony J. Iacono, CCM president. “They are an inspiration and a testament to the value of working hard and giving back to others.”
To be invited to join PTK, students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
