This 240-hour hybrid course prepares students for entry-level practice as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and may be completed as a stand-alone course or as part of an EMS certificate or degree program. The curriculum meets the National EMS Educational Standards and complies with New Jersey Emergency Medical Technician regulations (N.J.A.C. 8:40 and 8:40A). Students develop the knowledge, psychomotor skills, and professional behaviors necessary to assess, manage, and transport patients experiencing medical, traumatic, obstetric, pediatric, behavioral, and environmental emergencies. Instruction includes classroom, laboratory, a minimum of 10 hours of supervised clinical experience emphasizing evidence-based practice, patient safety, communication, and teamwork within the Emergency Medical Services system. Upon successful completion of all course requirements, students are eligible to pursue New Jersey EMT certification in accordance with New Jersey Department of Health requirements.
