HVAC/R Training Program

This introductory course in air conditioning and refrigeration provides students with foundational knowledge of HVAC/R systems, emphasizing the vapor compression cycle. Designed as the first in a series of HVAC/R training courses, it prepares students for the EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification. The curriculum, based on ESCO Institute’s official materials, covers the Core, Types I, II, and III certification areas, leading to the potential for Universal Certification. Topics include refrigerant types, environmental regulations, recovery and disposal procedures, and system diagnostics and servicing techniques.

Students will engage in both classroom and hands-on learning activities, including quizzes, practice exams, and proctored certification testing. Upon successful completion, students will be equipped to handle refrigerants safely and legally in compliance with EPA standards, enhancing their employment prospects in residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC sectors.

Due to space and equipment constraints, this class is limited to 10 students. Demand is very high for this class, and not everyone who wants to enroll will be able to join. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

This course does not provide job placement services. The course does provide optional career readiness skills such as resume writing and mock interview workshops.

Instructor:

Sal Giordano III, MS  EMTM – Sal has over 40 years of experience in the global HVAC and engineered products industries . He started his career with air conditioning pioneer Fedders Corporation as a junior lab technician, and rose to a senior leadership and management role.  He previously served as the Group Vice President of a $90 million global division of Fedders and CEO and President of startup Fedders Quigan Corp, in the Indoor Air Quality field.  He received an Executive Master’s in Business Administration and Technology Management (EMTM) from Stevens Institute of Technology. His strengths include building and leading high-performing teams,  teaching and mentoring students of diverse learning backgrounds, and ensuring classroom training directly matches the high quality and performance standards of today’s technology driven HVAC industry, while aligning skills and demands of employers today.
