The Center for Workforce Development offers comprehensive GED Preparation courses to help students earn their State of New Jersey High School Diploma. Our program is designed to ensure success on the General Education Development (GED) test, covering four key subjects: Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematical Reasoning, Science, Social Studies.
Students learn strategies for tackling various types of questions and managing test time effectively. The program emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills, essential for the GED and beyond. By providing targeted instruction and test-taking strategies, our GED prep program builds skills, boosts confidence, and enhances students’ chances of passing the GED while advancing their educational and career goals.
How to Get Started:
Step 1: Complete the Application form
Click on the ‘Interest Form’ link above to access the application form; fill it out and submit!
Step 2: Register for the pre-assessment test The test fee is $25.
Testing has concluded for the fall. Watch this space for future dates.
Step 3: Take the pre-assessment test
A pre-assessment will help determine which subjects you need to focus on to prepare for the GED exam. Take your pre-assessment at the CCM testing center. Your pre-assessment will tailor your focus to the areas you need—whether that’s all subjects or just the ones essential for passing the GED exam.
Step 4: Register for a GED prep course and finalize enrollment
A coordinator will review your scores with you and provide you with a link to any of the course subjects you choose to register for.

Instructor: Jennifer Keeling, BS – Jennifer is an accomplished high school math teacher who has taught the full high school mathematics curriculum over her years as a New Jersey high school math teacher. Teaching is a second career for Jennifer. A graduate of Virginia Tech with a BS in Management Science, Jennifer first worked as a systems engineer at a major international technology company and then worked as a senior programmer at a leading insurance company. After many years, Jennifer decided to return to university to earn a BA in Mathematics and a teaching certificate from Saint Elizabeth University. Jennifer graduated from Saint Elizabeth University with Highest Honors and was recipient of the university’s Mathematics Award. Nothing inspires Jennifer more than interacting with and helping others, especially helping students learn and advance their knowledge of math.

Instructor: Kelly L. Curtiss, Ed.D. – Dr. Curtiss currently serves as the Director of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) for Berkeley Heights Public Schools, where she oversees curriculum, instruction, professional development, and staffing. She has over 25 years of experience in education as a teacher, supervisor, and district administrator. Dr. Curtiss earned her Doctor of Education degree in K–12 Educational Leadership from Saint Elizabeth University. Her expertise includes curriculum design, instructional leadership, teacher evaluation, and building innovative STEM and career pathways. She has been recognized for fostering student-centered learning environments, leading district-wide mathematics reform, and expanding dual-enrollment and workforce development opportunities.

How do I get started?

Are classes online or in-person?
All classes are in-person in the evening, while tutoring sessions are offered online.
What documents do I need to get started?
You’ll need to provide identification and any relevant educational records.
What is a passing score?
A passing score on the GED exam is a minimum of 145 in each subject.
Are the courses available in Spanish?
Currently, the courses are only offered in English. However, the pre-assessment test and the test itself are offered in English and Spanish.
Do I need to take the prep classes to take the exam?
No, students can register for the test directly through the testing center if they feel ready.
Where can I find my scores?
Your scores will be available after completing the pre-assessment and can be accessed through your student portal.
What if I’ve taken the test before?
If you have previous scores, please contact wfd@ccm.edu to discuss your scores.
How long is the GED Prep Program?
The GED Prep Program lasts 9 weeks, with each subject offered twice a week for 1.5 hours per session.
Can I take the GED at 16 years old?
Yes, in New Jersey, students as young as 16 can take the GED if they meet the following requirements:
- Be a New Jersey resident
- Not enrolled in high school
- Not have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate
- Complete a Consent to Participate Form, signed by a parent or guardian and a parent or guardian must accompany them to the testing center
- Present the signed form to the Chief Examiner when registering for the test
Can I take one course at a time?
You can take one course at a time, several, or all four. It’s up to you.
