What You Will Learn
Welding, an essential skill used in manufacturing and technology, is continually sought after among employers in this industry.
In ‘Introduction to Welding,’ the first course in this program, students learn the basics of welding in CCM’s all new welding lab in the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Center. This course is a prerequisite for continuing training, as it is an opportunity for students to understand what is involved and to see if this vocation is a good fit for them.
In our longer follow-up course, ‘AWS Level 1 Welding,’ students committed to this vocation will gain the skills and practice hours in order to prepare for the American Welding Society (AWS) Level 1 Entry-Welder certification exam.
Due to space and equipment constraints, these classes are limited to 14 students. Demand is very high for these classes, and not everyone who wants to enroll will be able to join. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Welding Courses
Introduction to Welding (WDT-333E)
This course will introduce students to welding technology and welding theory with an emphasis on basic Stick and MIG welding and operating procedures. Additional topics include hand tool and power tool use, measurement, welding career potentials and introduction to welding codes and standards. The objective of this course is to introduce students to the field of welding, build their knowledge from the ground up, and enable them to acquire a range of skills in this industry.
Under the guidance of the instructor, students will have the opportunity to practice welding and create a solid welding foundation to prepare them for the AWS Level 1 course.
This program is usually an evening and weekend program. This program requires student commitment and attendance over an approximate 7-week period. Students are expected to supply their own safety gear/clothing.

AWS Level 1 Welding (WDT-215E)
Prerequisite: Introduction to Welding, or 1 year of work experience as a welder.
Learn the basics of welding in CCM’s welding lab in the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Center. In this 200-hour program, you will learn the differences and applications of the four main welding processes: Flux (FCAW or Flux Cored Arc Welding), Stick (SMAW or Shielded Metal Arc Welding), MIG (Metal, Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten, Inert Gas) welding. You will prepare to successfully pass the AWS Level 1 Entry-Welder certification exam.

- Gauntlet welding gloves

- Cotton denim or flame-retardant jeans and shirt
- Welding jacket (optional, but highly recommended)

Experienced welders can choose their desired certification from the list below or submit their own Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) for qualification.

Applicants must have successfully completed an approved welding training course or have 2-3 years relevant work experience. Interested students must fill out this interest form to verify their experience before registering for individual certifications.
This course will consist of three guided practice sessions. Students will receive instruction on best practices for earning their certification, followed by a final testing day where students will complete the required welding test coupon under the supervision of our Certified Welding Inspector. Test coupons are then sent out for 3rd party inspection and testing by AWS-certified professionals. Upon successfully passing the exam, students receive a certificate and become an AWS Certified Welder in the welding process of choice.

About the Instructors
Joseph Eannetta – a subject-matter expert, holds multiple certifications including TIG, MIG, Stick, FCAW; D1.1 structural steel certification in SMAW and FCAW-G; ASTM A672/A672M-19 pipe welding certification in SMAW / FCAW-G; OSHA 10,OSHA 30 and OSHA Hazwoper.
Bret Babich, MA – With two decades of hands-on experience, Bret is a highly skilled welder specializing in precision fabrication and structural welding. His expertise in MIG, TIG, and arc welding ensures top-quality results, regardless of the material or project specifications.
Gregory Matechak – Greg Matechak is an AWS qualified welder in structural stainless steel (D1.6), experienced with MiG (GMAW), TiG (GTAW), Stick (SMAW), and Flux Core (FCAW). He has worked as an instructor in multiple subjects, teaching a variety of students throughout New Jersey.
Brandon Reilly-Evans, BS – Brandon Reilly-Evans brings with him more than 10 years of combined mechanical engineering and project management experience in the public transit industry. He is a certified NDT Level II Inspector, Certified Weld Inspector (CWI), and AWS certified welder. His previous experience also includes design and layout of shop equipment to efficiently and effectively support the maintenance activities of rail vehicles. He is proficient with engineering programs such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, LabView, Microsoft Office programs & SAP.
