What You Will Learn
Teaching Spanish can be a rewarding career, especially for those who have a passion for the language and the cultures in countries that speak it. To qualify as a Spanish teacher in New Jesey, you must earn at least a bachelor’s degree and meet the state’s certification to teach in K-12.
The Teacher Education – Spanish program at CCM is designed for you to major in Spanish and to also take some courses in education. Thus, upon graduation from CCM, you are eligible to transfer to a four-year college or university to continue your studies, leading to certification for teaching, and your bachelor’s degree.
CCM has 10 different Teacher Education specializations to start you on your career as a teacher. You will graduate with an Associate of Arts degree from one of the best community colleges, ready to take the next steps and be a passionate educator.
Curriculum
A 45-credit general education foundation includes courses such as English Composition, Speech Fundamentals, General Psychology and Principles of Sociology, plus sequences in History, the Humanities and Math-Science-Technology, and an additional six credits in Spanish.
A 9-credit Teacher Education core and six more credits in Spanish prepares your aptitude in your craft.
First-hand experience and active participation in diverse and inclusive classroom settings through 20 hours of classroom observation rounds out your program at CCM.

Graduating from CCM with an associate degree is the first step to becoming a teacher. Transferring to a four-year college or university and successfully completing a bachelor’s degree program is the next step.

Behavior Observation in Education
Approximately 30 hours of field classroom observation and weekly seminars in which fellow aspiring teachers learn to apply the teaching methods they learn.
Analytic Geometry and Calculus I and II
A three-semester sequence, analytic geometry in the plane, differentiation and applications, and integration are covered. Calculus II is a continuation and covers the calculus of inverse trigonometric functions, methods of integration, analytic geometry in the plane including polar coordinates and conic sections, hyperbolic functions, sequences and series, and parametric equations.
Linear Algebra
Selected topics including matrices and determinants, vectors and vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, with applications from a variety of disciplines.
