Curriculum
By completing the 29-credit core you gain knowledge in the principles of public health and human behavior, in addition to studying hands-on subjects such as anatomy and physiology, personal and family nutrition and wellness, first aid and emergency care, plus participate in a foreign language sequence.
To help you excel in your career, you can gain a plethora of competencies including:

A degree in Public Health opens doors to a wide variety of careers and work environments including health departments, hospitals, state and federal agencies, community-based organizations, managed care organizations, health policy and health service management.
The world has a high demand for you! Employment of health education specialists and community health workers is projected to grow 17% by 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations, adding about 1.9 million new jobs. This projected growth is mainly due to an aging population, leading to greater demand for healthcare services.

Principles of Public Health
This lecture-based course provides a broad overview of the many facets of public health, including, but not limited to historical perspectives, communicable disease, epidemiology, health policy, environmental health, emergency preparedness, and social, cultural, and behavioral aspects of health across the life span. It describes public health infrastructure, delivery of services at the local, state, and national levels, and the core competencies for public health professionals.
Anatomy and Physiology I and II
Study the structure and function of the human organism with special emphasis given to interrelationships of organs and organ systems in this eight-credit, two-semester course. Be introduced to basic chemistry, the cell, basic tissues, the integumentary, the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems, as well as studying the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine and reproductive systems. Dissection is required.
Personal Health and Wellness
Examine current health and wellness topics that have an impact on the individual today. Emphasis is on a wellness approach, examining the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual dimensions of health.
