What You Will Learn
Learn English at CCM!
The mission of the English as a Second Language (ESL) program is to give you the academic English skills and cultural knowledge you need to complete a degree at a U.S. college where English is the principal language.
- The ESL program at CCM consists of Reading, Writing and Conversation courses organized into three levels.
- Students are placed into the appropriate level according to a placement test.
- The ESL program is not a certificate or degree program for beginners * – students must have a basic understanding of English grammar and vocabulary.
*If you do not have a basic understanding of the English language, please visit the college’s English Language Learning (ELL) program with a range of foundation and beginner classes offered through Workforce Development.
Curriculum
With only three levels, the ESL Program is an intensive and accelerated curriculum and includes:
- ESL Reading I
- ESL Writing I
- Conversational English
Why Study ESL at CCM?
- A full-time student who begins at Level I can start taking major courses during the summer of their first year; students who place in Level III can begin their major in the first semester.
- The majority of classes in the ESL Program are taught by full-time faculty who hold at least a master’s degree in ESL, TESOL or Applied Linguistics.
